"Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free!" It is National Red Ribbon Week this week and our elementary students dressed like their favorite hero today. These students chose various school positions/people to be their heroes. If this is the future of education, our society will be in great hands!
We are happy to have Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Payne as part of our Minutemen family! Thank you to our elementary tech club for creating these staff spotlights.
The art room had an extra special artist join our creative session this week: Mr. Deters! While our 3rd grade students practiced origami basics by making an instructional booklet and a paper dog, Mr. Deters joined in on the fun and learned the techniques along with them. Mrs. Long says he did a great job being a first time listener, following directions, and matching up his corners.
Mrs. Ketelsen’s 3rd graders have officially wrapped up Unit 1 of our reading curriculum, and we had an absolute blast exploring the deep blue sea! Our ocean adventures didn't stop with reading and research. Inspired by the legendary Japanese artist Hokusai and his famous woodblock prints (like The Great Wave off Kanagawa), our young artists tapped into their creativity to craft their own sea-inspired masterpieces! We are so proud of how hard our 3rd graders worked during our first unit. Check out some of our amazing readers and artists in action!
Friday=reading games! Every now and then our students enjoy a little friendly competition.
Fourth grade students took a brain break before their afternoon reading class last week. Our students work hard each day to learn and we love giving them these chances to move and shift their brains from one subject to the next!
1000 Wins! Our volleyball program achieved this goal at the end of the 2025 season, and we celebrated this milestone last week during a home match. Lexington is one of just 50 programs in the state to reach this mark, and the only Heart of Illinois conference school to do so. Several former players and coaches were in attendance to mark this moment, and some stayed after the match to pose for pictures and visit with former teammates and coaches.

Second grade students just finished their butterfly unit! Students studied and observed the butterfly life cycle. To complete this unit, students got to release their painted lady butterflies!
October is Fire Prevention Month, but we celebrated a little early with our annual poster contest taking place in September to promote this year's theme "Charge into Fire Safety-Safe Charging is a Superpower". We would like to thank our Lexington Fire Department for judging the posters and selecting the winners to ride in the fire vehicles during the Homecoming Parade.
We’re excited to share that Lexington CUSD #7 has received a Compeer Financial Next ACRE Grant supporting hands-on agricultural education and career exploration for our students! This funding will help purchase a virtual welding simulator for our agriculture program. Each year, approximately 50–60 students will use the simulator to safely practice welding techniques, build confidence, and prepare for live welding experiences. The equipment will also introduce students to careers in welding, fabrication, agricultural equipment repair, and other skilled trades that are vital to rural communities like ours. Over the past two weeks, Mrs. Rampey's sixth-grade classes have been studying the search-and-rescue dog teams that supported first responders at Ground Zero following the September 11 tragedy. Students engaged in reading and writing assignments focused on Texas Task Force 1 member Bretagne, a Golden Retriever who, with her handler, Denise Corliss, responded to the site. Together, they worked strenuous 12-hour shifts for 10 consecutive days searching through the rubble. Although Bretagne did not locate survivors, she provided emotional support to personnel working at the scene. Mrs. Rampey’s lessons culminated with a visit from special guests, Mrs. Holst and Radley. Mrs. Holst presented information on the roles, rights, and distinctions of working dogs. The students deepened their understanding of the important contributions of these dogs and reflected on the experiences of those they serve.
